Facebook disables function to gain access to addresses, numbers

Facebook is temporarily disabling a function that allows users access to others’ addresses and telephone numbers. The move was quietly posted on the company’s development blog late last week, but late Monday, Facebook said it was suspending the feature and updating it based on feedback from users. The updated feature will allow users to grant access to their own information but not their friends’ information. While this should be viewed as a step in the right direction for privacy matters, there are some in the industry who still feel this may not be enough of a shield. Users have complained in the past that Facebook’s privacy settings are very confusing. Facebook is also taking some flack because of the way they announced — or rather didn’t announce — the change.
