Gannett implements furloughs again

Posted on January 18, 2011

Gannett announced at the beginning of the month that they will once again require their non-union employees at 81 community newspapers to take a one-week furlough in the first quarter of 2011. In the past three years, the newspaper publishing company has implemented four other furloughs. Gannett says the furloughs are necessary because of continuing declines in revenue. They are also negotiating with union reps to try to get union employees to take the mandatory week as well.
