Tribune Co., which owns larger papers like the Chicago Tribune, Orlando Sentinel and Los Angeles Times, is expected to emerge from bankruptcy later this year. Still, the fate of Tribune’s newspapers is not decided. Although a judge is expected to approve the company’s reorganization plan in March, creditors who will assume ownership of Tribune Co. may not care that the newspapers are not failing financially and are actually showing some profitability. Leading creditors like JP Morgan Chase may see this as an opportunity to sell.
