Twitter launches in South Korea

Posted on January 20, 2011

Twitter officially launched in South Korea yesterday with a complete Korean-language version of its site. They’ve also updated the iPhone and Android apps to include the Hangul alphabet. It’s not like Koreans haven’t been using Twitter though. A wide variety of Korean language apps like Tweetdeck have been available for some time. Twitter’s big competition in South Korea won’t be third-party applications though. The country’s homegrown social network site Cyworld currently has almost 25 million users. (Facebook only has 2.3 million Korean users.) Still, it will be interesting to see how Twitter fares in South Korea. Coming soon: The Twitter Arabic launch.
