Apple’s new subscription app is more publisher friendly

Posted on February 15, 2011

After weeks of criticism about Apple’s stance on subscription standards on its products, today the company unveiled a subscription service in its apps store that critics believe will relieve some of the pain. Through the app, publishers will be able to set payment standards and subscription term lengths. According to the article: “Our philosophy is simple,” Steve Jobs wrote in a statement. “When Apple brings a new subscriber to the app, Apple earns a 30 percent share. When the publisher brings an existing or new subscriber to the app, the publisher keeps 100 percent and Apple earns nothing.” This move is definitely more publisher friendly.
