Elizabeth Taylor lived longer than one of her obit writers

Posted on March 28, 2011

Newspapers and news agencies have made it a common practice to prepare celebrity obituaries ahead of time. They know they will write an article when certain people die and, when they do, they can just add in a few details. When Elizabeth Taylor died last week, NPR posted an interesting article about how one of her advance obituary writers actually passed away before her. Mel Gussow, a reporter for The New York Times, died in 2005. He still received credit for The Times’ obit for Taylor though.
