Last week, the Colorado Springs Gazette announced on its website that it was trimming 12 positions from its newspaper staff. Among these cuts were reportedly some key positions in the newsroom. At the same time, editor Jeff Thomas, who had been with the paper for 23 years and had been an editor since 2006, resigned. There is speculation that Thomas resigned because the layoffs included some of his top managers but this has not been confirmed.
