Blogger Michael Silence goes silent as Knoxville paper lays off him, 32 others

Posted on December 8, 2011

Michael Silence was one month away from his 30th anniversary at the Knoxville News Sentinel when he and 32 others got laid off this week, according to his own blog “No Silence Here” and noted on Paper Cuts. Silence blogged on blogging for the paper since August 2004 and, in his last post, he notes that “No Silence Here” will cease to exist. After we got over the irony of the name of the blog and the current situation, we headed over to Nashville Scene and found out that Silence was one of four newsroom employees who were affected by the layoffs. Still, this news doesn’t boast for a very merry Christmas for the newspaper industry.
