Editor & Publisher reports that Lee Enterprises, which owns newspaper publications in 52 markets (mostly in the Midwest), has filed for bankruptcy. Apparently this news wasn’t unexpected for the publisher based in Davenport, Iowa. Lee Enterprises had announced earlier that they were going to make this move as part of a refinancing plan to repay $1 billion in debt. Lee Enterprises owns several large newspapers; including the St. Louis Dispatch, Wisconsin State Journal and Arizona Daily Star.
